More good comics news (at least, to me)

Today at Comic Book Resources, Seth Jones talks to the four artists of Warren Ellis's Apparat line of comics. Now, I'm wishing I would have preordered on this, as I didn't pay attention to the hype as it was coming out. Silly, silly me. And, unlike most group/studio/whatever efforts, I have a deep appreciation for half of the artists involved, specifically Laurren McCubbin and Carla Speed McNeil. McNeil is illustrating Frank Ironwire, which finds its thematic lineage in crime-related pulp novels of yesteryear. Plus, it's got McNeil's art, which is always a plus. Also, McNeil's comment that it's "[f]unnier than panties with built-in butt-cheeks, if that's possible" only makes me want to buy it more.

Also, I'm going to have to add another superhero book to the mix, because I'm not going to pass up any Laurenn McCubbin work. McCubbin's work seems to have a polarizing effect on people, with no "it's ok" median reaction. I'm firmly in the "yay!" camp on McCubbin's work, though, and I've been meaning to do something on Rent Girl. McCubbin is handling the art for Quit City, and describes it as "a light-hearted romp through one woman's screwed up psyche. How do you stop being a superhero? How do you pick up where you left off? Ellis tells us, and sets stuff on fire. Because that is the kind of man he is."
